Mrs. Davison NSHS: Letter of Introduction
Dear Students,
I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be your teacher for the remainder of the year. I know I have some pretty big shoes to fill, but I want you to know that I am committed to making the transition from one teacher to another a smooth one. I also hope that our time together from now until June will be productive and fun. I look forward to getting to know you better.
You are probably curious about me as well. I am a teacher at the Queens High School for the Sciences at York College, in Jamaica, Queens. I am not there right now because I had my second baby a year ago (I have a 3 year old daughter named Norah and a 1 ½ year old boy named Colin) and I have been on Child Care Leave. Since I am on Child Care Leave and recently moved to Sea Cliff, I am lucky enough to be able to take this part-time position here at North Shore with you.
I am looking forward to the work we will be doing in the next few months! We will finish up our unit on Bless Me, Ultima, and then we will delve into units on persuasive writing and debate, the famous Gothic horror novel Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, and do some poetry and independent reading as well. One of the most important things you should know is that I’ve set up a website for you and your parents to consult whenever you have a question about what is going on in class. This is the place to go if you are absent and need to see what we did in class that day, or if you need to print out another copy of a handout, or if you need to contact me. In addition, you will from time to time have homework assignments that are posted there. Check it out: www.mrsdavison.typepad.com/10h.
Now I’d like to hear from you! Please write me a letter telling me a little bit about yourself. I would like you to write 1 to 1 ½ pages by this Wednesday, March 17th. Here are a few ideas for what to write about in your letter:
· Describe yourself as a student.
· Write about the best English class you’ve ever had.
· Write about the kind of books you like to read.
· If you enjoy writing, tell me about what you like to write.
· As your English teacher, is there anything else you would like me to know about you?
· Do you have any questions for me?
I can’t wait to read your letters and get to know more about you! Please let me know if you have any questions about this assignment, or about the class.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Davison
